Getting there.. - Gareth - 01-01-2026 Hey BF community, I have still not fully made my mind up where I want to take BF - I guess we shall see where we over the next few months. One thing I am certain of is that I want to keep the community going for as long as possible, the only constraints I will have are that of my imagination. For the meantime, there will be quite a bit of updates going on behind the scenes. I will not bore you every time I change something, as I am constantly making small changes here and there and don't want to bloat the forum with a lot of junk. If you have any suggestions or feedback on where to take BF, please do reach out to me either by private messaging or through the feedback and suggestions forum. Over the next few weeks, I will change the logo of the forum. I am happy with the way the temporary logo fits with the theme, I will more than likely follow a similar theme and similar colours, I haven't decided yet but I do like it. Over the next few weeks, I want to update a few of the user experience aspects of the forum, such as user progression, user titles and user groups. It will be a slow progress but we will get there. In the near future I want to create buttons for the "edit"/"find"/"search" links that are located on the bottom right of a thread/post. They're okay for now but adding some simple CSS will just enhance the feel of theme and the community. Much love, G RE: Getting there.. - Gareth - 01-03-2026 Progress has been slow over the past few days, I have had a lot of AFK stuff to deal with - the holidays have well and truly ruined me. Back to normality with the day job now so I shall try to get some more development done. I still haven't come up with a decision as to where I am going to take BF but at this stage, I am not too worried about where to take it. Considering the low costs to keep BF running thus far, it really isn't a big deal keeping the site open even if no progress is being made. It's a good position to be in, the world is our oyster with this community and once we start to grow, it'll take it's own direction no doubt. RE: Getting there.. - Gareth - 01-03-2026 I have been considering the idea of installing some form of software to act as the main part of the website. In all fairness, it could be absolutely anything at this stage, there are a few requisites though: * Must be something that I have an interest in developing, * Must be in a language that I have some experience in (such as PHP, that would be ideal - there is still a lot of PHP software out there), * Low-costs, * Flexible, * Adaptable. The list isn't exhaustive, there are probably a few things that I haven't thought about or jotted down just now. What's ironic is that I love this stuff but I have always put too much pressure on myself to deliver a certain thing at a certain time. Will ballache, there is no need to pretend that I am doing anything other than being myself. RE: Getting there.. - Gareth - 01-03-2026 One thing that I want to get a handle on, I want to redesign the profile page. I have some really neat ideas for this redesign but I will first need to get the idea down on paper, figure out the logistics and then get to developing it on the DEV server. Really looking forward to releasing this to the general population, it will be a great little thing. RE: Getting there.. - Gareth - 01-04-2026 I may need to update the specs of the server in the coming weeks, we have just the basic spec that the hosting provider uses and htop proves to me that swp is being abused at the moment having two instances of MyBB and two separate databases connected to the once instance of the core. I may need to update the core, doing anything in SSH is proving quite difficult and slow with just the one core. Something to think about over the next few days. |
